Remember My Baby

Trustee Appointments

A tiny life that is always loved, cherished and never forgotten.

Remember My Baby is a UK registered charity that offers a gift of baby remembrance photography to UK parents experiencing the loss of
their baby before, during, or shortly after birth.

Founded in August 2014 by parents with lived experience and therefore an acute understanding of the loss felt by parents and of the need to create positive memories in the most challenging circumstance that no parent should have to endure.

Ten years on, and with the key pillars and foundation for future success in place, they had made a bold decision as a board to build the board’s capacity and capability, to help them achieve their ultimate ambition to have baby remembrance photography offered as a choice to all parents facing the loss of their baby in every hospital and birth centre across the UK.

They sought candidates able to demonstrate passion and empathy for their sensitive and timely work, with the ability to leverage their specialist areas of expertise and networks or their lived experience to ensure that they continue to grow and strengthen as a charity and become more
sustainable, increasing both their reach and impact.

Trustees who would relish  the opportunity to play a key role in supporting families through loss, shaping the future development of a charity that brings comfort and compassion to those who need it most, and who would also embrace working alongside a passionate and inspiring team of dedicated volunteer photographers.

“We are deeply grateful to Philip Nelson and The Hiring Dept. for their invaluable support in helping us recruit four new trustees to our organisation.

As a small volunteer-led charity dedicated to supporting families experiencing baby loss, we have always been passionate about our mission but lacked the resources to establish a sustainable governance structure.

Philip brought not only his expertise in executive search and charity governance, but also genuine empathy and commitment for our cause. He guided us through the recruitment process, step by step, with professionalism and care, helping us define the skills and qualities needed for our board. Access to Philip’s extensive network coupled with his strategic insight ensured we connected with exceptional candidates who share our vision and values.

Thanks to his time and dedication, we now have four talented new trustees joining us who bring a wealth of experience and fresh perspectives to our charity, setting us on a path toward long-term sustainability and our goal of providing remembrance photography to all parents experiencing baby loss.

We cannot thank Philip enough for his generosity and support and would have no hesitation in recommending him to other charities about to embark on a multiple trustee recruitment campaign.”

The Brief

Their expectations were high. They were operating with just four trustees, a figure they were keen to double and they were facing the type of challenges faced by most other charities including increased operating costs, a challenging fundraising landscape and escalating demand for the gift they provide.

They were seeking to appoint a treasurer, a Qualified Accountant proficient in budgeting, compliance, and reporting; an experienced fundraiser to help them develop their new fundraising strategy, to help drive income growth; a parent with lived experience to inform and guide their work, helping them to  shape how they deliver their unique gift; and a marketing professional to help the charity amplify their message and reach, and who could bring a fresh and commercial perspective to board discussions. They were also keen to look a first-time trustees actively looking to join a board as part of their leadership journey.

Appointment of four new Trustees

The success of the campaign resulted in the appointment of four trustees and a Volunteer Photographer based in Scotland.

Treasurer: A Qualified Accountant and Finance professional with 36 years experience in the City, where he held a number of senior management roles, most recently serving as  Managing Director and Head of Regulatory Reporting with an International Bank, he also currently serves as an experienced volunteer with two other national charities.

Fundraiser: A mother impacted by Baby Loss and a campaigner raising awareness of stillbirth,  she currently serves as the Fundraising and Marketing Manager for a national charity which seeks to assist children, young people and adults at risk of suffering or being abused.

Parent: A Qualified social worker, working in children’s social care, principally overseeing and supporting children’s physical and mental health, education, identity and family time,  she was motivated to become a trustee as a consequence of her own lived experience and the support she and her partner received from Remember My Baby.

Marketing Professional: A Marketing Manager at a British-based global technology business, who has previously held other similar management roles at a marketing agency, within telecoms and for a creative agency, she had been specifically looking for a cause she could serve as a trustee as part of her leadership journey.
